I am a Veteran
The link I have provided below illustrates the gross lack of training we are experiencing in the United States.
FACTS:
https://www.taonline.com/TAPOffice/
The Website states:
Two days will be dedicated to core curriculum training, which consists of going over personal finances, family adjustments, VA benefits, and mentorship Three days of the program will be spent on a Department of Labor employment workshop, involving resume writing, practice job interviews, job search practice, and how to use social media The last two days are optional focusing on three different tracks: College-bound: financial aid, classroom adjustments Working: career technical training, certification information Entrepreneurs: small business startup instructions
MY OPNION
Am I reading that correct? 5 days mandatory and 2 days optional??? That is the United States Department of Defense, giving our veterans a whole 5 days mandatory. As a Veteran myself, there is no way on God’s green earth that 5 days is going to help set my brothers and sisters up for success. Yet we give incarcerated citizens a full year to transition. But that’s another article for another time. I am floored at the lack of support veterans get. No wonder why they are not getting the jobs like they should. Some jobs do not have an equivalent civilian counterpart to compare to.
What do we do with the bomb manufacturers and boatswains mates and others jobs that are so heavily relied upon in the military, but do not make the income these guys need? Literally, as a combat medic you can be dressing an amputee wound on the battle field one week and the following week after getting out of the military you wouldn’t have the credential to start an intravenous line for hydration. The military needs to have a special option of transition as a job to help veterans retain employment after separation.
Having a classification available for all military jobs would greatly decrease the unemployment rate and help these brothers and sisters to contribute maybe steering away from depression and suicide.
Three needs of the American Skilled worker
We need to recognize what the military has done, we need to give incarcerated citizens a second fair chance and we need to educate business leaders on the importance of employee investment.
